چکیده
Abstract The ocean mixed layer temperature equation is used to estimate the surface net heat flux from drifter measurements. determined for both climatologic and tropical cyclone (TC) conditions. spatial distributions of drifter-derived fluxes under two conditions are similar those derived satellite observations. Earth ’ s surface heat flux
We present a revised estimate of Earth’s surface heat flux that is based upon a heat flow data-set with 38 347 measurements, which is 55% more than used in previous estimates. Our methodology, like others, accounts for hydrothermal circulation in young oceanic crust by utilising a half-space cooling approximation. For the rest of Earth’s surface, we estimate the average heat flow for different ...
متن کاملEstimation of surface sensible heat flux using dual angle observations of radiative surface temperature
In this study, dual angle observations of radiative surface temperature have been used in conjunction with a two-layer model to derive sensible heat flux over a sparsely vegetated surface. Data collected during the semi-arid-land-surface-atmosphere program (SALSA) over a semi-arid grassland in Mexico were used to assess the performance of the approach. The results showed that this approach led ...

متن کاملRole of Net Surface Heat Flux in Seasonal Variations of Sea Surface Temperature in the Tropical Atlantic Ocean
The present study used a new net surface heat flux (Qnet) product obtained from the Objective Analyzed Air–Sea Fluxes (OAFlux) project and the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) to examine two specific issues—one is to which degree Qnet controls seasonal variations of sea surface temperature (SST) in the tropical Atlantic Ocean (20°S–20°N, east of 60°W), and the other is ...
متن کاملSpurious trends in global surface drifter currents
The Global Drifter Program (GDP) has been measuring near-surface ocean currents with surface drifters since 1979. At least half of the World Ocean now has drifter velocity time series longer than 15 years. The availability of this data opens new opportunities to explore observationally how ocean circulation responds to changing surface forcing. In this paper we report evidence of an apparently ...
